Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show at ECC Aug. 12
A variety of vintage and new vehicles, and the latest in environmentally-friendly vehicles, will be on display during Elgin Community Colleges fourth annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show Aug. 12.
The show is free for spectators and will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, in parking lot 9 at ECCs Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The lot is located off Lehr Drive near the intersection of Spartan and Renner drives on the ECC campus.
Spectators can enjoy seeing yesterdays classic cars, compare new vehicles and sticker prices from seven area dealers. In the wake of higher gas prices which have exceeded $3 per gallon spectators also can check out the latest in alternative fuel vehicles.
Senior citizens ages 60 and older can take advantage of free vehicle safety inspections that will be held from 9 a.m. to noon adjacent to the show site in parking lot 9. The 25-point inspections will be performed by students and instructors in ECCs Automotive Services program and will include fluids, belts, hoses, lighting and tire pressure.
The inspections are sponsored by Total Home Health and Elgin Township TRIAD. Space and times are limited. Contact TRIAD at 847-741-2045 to make an appointment.
Live entertainment will be provided by Music Express DJ, and there will be concessions and door prizes all day long. Food will be available for sale from ECC Food Services.
Spectators also can view the latest from Derek Burseth and Burseth Racing LLC. The Bartlett-based performance-driven race team uses a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe 98 in the 2006 Speed Challenge GT Championship. Burseth, 22, is the youngest Dodge Viper driver in the series and one of the up-and-coming young guns of the racing world.
In addition to racing, Burseth Racing LLC also sells and services competition and performance equipment to both motor sport competitors and car enthusiasts.
Also appearing at the show is a team from ..1 Stunnas Motorsports. The club, which began in 2003, is comprised of more than 1,000 members and has chapters across the nation. In addition to racing, the club does stunt shows, videos, movies and provides security and transportation for celebrities.
Also, representatives from the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin will be selling ducks for $5 each as part of its Ducks of the Caribbean fundraiser. All sold ducks about 15,000 - will be dumped into the Fox River in downtown Elgin Sept. 10 during the Biggers Chevrolet Fox Valley Duck Race. The first 10 ducks to cross the finish line will win prizes for those who adopted them.
A trophy ceremony will held from 3 to 4 p.m. near the Instruction Center (ICT). Awards will be given for the top 40 vehicles on display, including best of show awards for all types of vehicles.
This year, recipients will walk away with one-of-a-kind, custom-made trophies crafted from auto parts and created by ECCs art and industrial technology students.
For those who wish to show a car, truck or motorcycle, the entry fee is $12 per vehicle. A portion of the entry fees will go toward the American Cancer Societys Relay For Life. ECC automotive students may enter free of charge. Cars that are carried by trailer to the event also are welcome to enter the competition.
